Established in 1898, Brown Motors has grown to become a premier Ford Lincoln Mercury auto dealer in the Northern Michigan region. Throughout our tenure we have strived to include the best possible customer service with top-notch repair/maintenance work and comprehensive new and used car, truck, minivan and SUV inventories.

Brown Motors was founded 110 years ago by Ben Brown, grandfather of current owners Steve & Erik Brown, as a harness shop in downtown Charlevoix.  Brown sold the newly invented Ford motor cars.  In 1924, Brown became a Dodge dealer making the company one of the oldest Dodge dealerships.  In 1937, Brown opened a second Dodge dealership in downtown Petoskey.  Ben's sons, Floyd and Lewis, made many changes in their successive years of ownership.  In 1968, the Charlevoix location was sold; Chrysler was added in 1975; a year later Brown Motors moved from downtown Petoskey to the Harbor Springs-Petoskey Road.  

The Ford, Lincoln, Mercury franchise was added in 1986 and a year later Lewis retired and sold the business to sons, Steve & Erik.  In January 2009 Brown Motors Chrysler Dodge joined Brown Motors Ford Lincoln Mercury at 2170 US 31 North in Petoskey, MI with a new showroom and combined service and parts operations.  Jeep was added in June 2009!

Over the years, Brown Motors may have changed from servicing four hooves to four wheels transportation, but the name and commitment to the customer have remained the same.  Brown Motors offers a state-of-the-art showroom, Parts & Service Centers including Quick Lube and a Finance Department.
